CHOKER 3 Work In Progress Shots

May 21st, 2010 8:42am

CHOKER 3. May 26th. Be there, or uh, not be there I guess.

With CHOKER #3 coming up, here's a peek at how the cover came together.

And yes, just so you know, this image should be a print, available at HEROES CON over in Charlotte, where I'll be, all days, June 4th to 6th! ( As well as the US premier of SQUIDGIRLS! )

Before all that though, I'll be at LONDON MCM EXPO, May 29th-30th. And, if all goes well, SQUIDGIRLS gets it's world premier there. Didn't actually plan it that way but hey, only fitting considering my Anglophile status. 9 And guess what, Warren "I will kill your dog if it looks at me funny" Ellis will be there, Saturday only, so it's probably worth checking out regardless of how much my presence may in fact, repel you.

After some rough pencils, I start adding some basic line work.

Then comes the watercolour washes and such. I do like the drips!

I'd actually already started on the white lines before I took these shots. Yes, I use a few white pens to get some of the details in.

The final, original art, scanned in. Added some white acrylic paint as well as a dash of red veins. If you like it, check out www.templesmitharts.com to buy the original art piece.

Added a bunch of layers of textures and medical type things, a bit of dodge and burn as well as fleshing out the skull with the photo I took for reference for the drawing in the first place.

CHOKER #3 Is DONE!

CHOKER ISSUE 3

Some work in progress shots of CHOKER issue 3. The book is now ALL DONE! I was silent all last week as it was killing me doing this book. Many a late night. But I love my job so I'm not actually complaining. Should be back to more regular bloggity business as usual now. I have a bunch of other sneak peeks to show from this issue...so stay tuned.

Huge thanks to Image Comics and Ben McCool for bearing with me! February-March-April were utterly exhausting months with all the travel and conventions and work. Too me ages to ramp back up for work really.

And now I stare down the barrel of a massive work load before SDCC... it's going to be all systems go from now on. I hope I live through it!

CHOKER #3 should hit, May 26th!

CHOKER #3 and C2E2

Yes CHOKER issue 3... it IS coming... with all the cons, the tour and extra signings ( not to mention a filming of a certain webisode ) I've barely been able to draw breath... so obviously, it's slightly delays and my fault entirely.

But it's coming. Here's  a sneak peek.

The LAST convention/travel I need to do this month is for C2E2 in CHICAGO. Really looking forward to this one. It should be big. Plus, I get to announce the new thingy...not ot mention sell a bunch of books, prints and original art should anyone be interested.

So come by for a chat, I'll be in Artists Alley most of the time when not at a few panels! More on all that tomorrow.

Mar 22nd, 2010 4:03pm

The CHOKER tour is over and by all accounts, was a great success. Cheers hugely to all who came out to the signings as well as the Emerald City Con. We sold out in most places and have been told the rest would be on the way out soon enough. HUGE thanks to all the retailers we visited. It's what makes doing comics such a great job.

If you've not heard... both CHOKER #1 and #2 have SOLD OUT:

Official Press Release

CHOKER #1, the first of a six-issue detective noir series by industry superstar BEN TEMPLESMITH and writer BEN MCCOOL, is completely sold out at the distribution level. Image Comics is rushing a second printing to press, for release alongside CHOKER #2 on March 17.

"The response to CHOKER has been tremendous!" Templesmith exclaims. "Thanks to all the readers and everyone who has joined us at CHOKER events around the country. It's more than a couple of blokes could ask for!"

McCool adds, "This wouldn't be possible without the readers. So, big thanks for reading CHOKER. I hope you're having as absolute a blast with it as we are!"

"We are incredibly proud to be working with Templesmith and McCool on CHOKER, and we're as thrilled as they are about the phenomenal response to the first issue," says Image Publisher Eric Stephenson. "Their work on the series is unmatched, and I can't wait to see readers' response to the rest of the series."

CHOKER stars Johnny "Choker" Jackson, once one of Shotgun City's most promising police officers, is a bitter private detective with a terrible case of Alien Hand Syndrome. But he's unexpectedly been offered a job back on the force, provided he can nail a twisted drug dealer selling a very exclusive product, that is...

Templesmith and McCool's Choker #2 Sells Out

Artist Ben Templesmith and writer Ben McCool have done it again! Like CHOKER #1, the second issue of their critically acclaimed and popularly received CHOKER miniseries has sold out at the distribution level. Image Comics is prepping a second printing to be released alongside CHOKER #3.

"Truly, awesome sauce. I really, REALLY appreciate all the readers sticking with us onto #2, said Templesmith. I don't know what we've done to have the Space Squid bless us with such luck and support from both publisher and reader alike but I'd like to think it shows that people are still willing to take a punt on brand new creator owned comics and that it's worth putting the time and effort into them. It's all been incredibly rewarding.

Added McCool, "What great news! All of our readers deserve a pint for their stellar support!"

Saturday at Midtown Comics

Midtown comics was also awesome. We sold out of all copies BUT they were among the lucky ones who also got the dud/bad print early copies and some of them are pretty reasonable quality, so they had us sign them all and make them available. So if you can't find a copy, they still have some, signed!

GET CHOKER

CHOKER COVER progressions

Want CHOKER? Print this here thingy.

Choker is a new hardboiled noir miniseries by award-winning creator, Ben Templesmith, and writer, Ben McCool, that will be in store February 2010.

The best way to get CHOKER is to ask your nice local comic store type person to "Please put me down for a copy of CHOKER #1 from Image Comics. I have heard this comic actually cures cancer, turns water into wine, can beat a chess grandmaster in 3 moves while toilet training a small effeminate dog." The order code is:

DEC090342

This is what your friendly, most awesome retailer type person will need to know to note down which book to actually order for this month. You order it this month, when it's available, then magically, pixies deliver it to you sometime in February. It's weird how it works, but the pixies apparently run a fairly tight ship.
